Strange measure

Could you please explain what is the name of the strange measure of beer volume in cans amounting to 0.44 litre. It isn't neither English nor American pint. Whenever I am drinking such quantity of beer, I feel unsatisfied need for 0.06 litre of beer and am forced to open the next can. In Continent such volume of beer is unknown.

I think bottles are normally 0.44 litre and cans 0.5 litre..the
reason for such measurements could be to optimise export packaging
and/or retailer shelf requiremnents-or just to make you drink more!

Thank you for explanation. I've never seen bottles 0.44 litre. I
        know only ones of 1.0, 0.7, 0.66, 0.5, 0.33 and 0.25 l. I think it
could be such a policy to make people drink more :)
