Andrzej Krawczyk - Undersecretary of State

Since January 18, 2006, Undersecretary of State in charge of international
affairs.

Born on October 22, 1954. A historian, graduated from the Historical Institute
of Warsaw University (1976), Ph.D. in history (1982). Specialist in the 20th
century history of Central Europe. Academic teacher at Warsaw University and
the Catholic University of Lublin. Author of 5 books and ca 100 articles.

Co-editor of the Warsaw University Solidarity Trade Union’s Bulletin („Biuletyn
Solidarności Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego” in 1980-1982. Member of the Team
publishing the Historical and Literary Library („Biblioteka Historyczna i
Literacka”, a samizdat periodical. Co-founder of the „ABC” magazine featuring
the problems of Central and Eastern Europe (1985-1989). Secretary General of
the „Central European Forum” (1993-1996)

Working in the state administration since 1989 as, i.a., director of minister
Aleksander Hall’s cabinet, director general of the Polish Parliament’s
Chancellery, adviser to Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka, Chairman of the
Supervisory Council of the Polish Information Agency, President of the "Pomoc
Polakom na Wschodzie" Foundation (1993-1996), director general in the Office
for War Veterans, president of the Polish Market Transformation
Agency "Wiedzieć Jak" (1999-2001), ambassador to the Czech Republic (2001-
2005), the only of the ambassadors accredited in Prague to lecture on the
history of Poland at Charles University in Prague when on his diplomatic
mission.

Honorary Member of the Union of Poles in Belarus (1996); Member of the
Management Board of the „Polish-American-Ukrainian Cooperation Initiative”
(1998-2000).

Married to Ewelina, a pediatrician. Three children: Magda (26 – pursuing
doctoral studies in sociology), Marek (23 – a law student) and Piotr (20 –
studying sinology).
