Dual Nationality
Polish citizens who became naturalized American citizens after January 8,
1951 have not lost their Polish citizenship under Polish law, unless they
have formally renounced their Polish citizenship with the consent of the
Polish government. Also, children born to one American citizen parent and one
Polish citizen parent usually are both American and Polish according to the
citizenship laws of the respective countries. Those persons having dual
nationality must enter and depart Poland with a Polish passport, and enter
and depart the United States with an American passport. This will not affect
your right to obtain services at the American Embassy as an American citizen.
If you are not sure if you still have Polish citizenship, you should check
with the nearest Polish Embassy or Consulate before you travel. All questions
regarding the acquisition, retention and loss Polish Citizenship should be
referred to the Polish Consulates in the United States or to the Regional
Departments of Citizenship Affairs in Poland. For more information, please
contact the » Polish Embassy in Washington.
