Dear Ambassador
I would greatly appreciate your attention to an enquiry I have received from
a constituent. She currently holds both a British and Polish passport. She
has been informed that from January 2003, all Polish citizens must enter and
leave the country on Polish passports or may be refused entry, fined or asked
to leave the country.
Her current Polish passport has recently expired and she is rather concerned
that the process of obtaining a new Polish passport is both costly and
lengthy, involving obtaining a 'personal number' and registering her marriage
in Poland.
Could you confirm if the above is indeed the case or if she can continue to
travel to Poland on her British passport. If the above represents the current
legal situation in Poland for holders of dual nationality, is there any
contradiction with travel agreements with the EU, particularly in light of
next year's expected Polish membership?
Many thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Robert Evans MEP
