Polish girls & Portuguese boys. Any opposite?

12.10.04, 08:59
Hi! or Bom Dia!

Yesterday I talked to my "maezinha=mama" ;-) and she was told by
the "qiosque" women from my town's railway station that there is a "replica"
of me and my wife there!
Another Portuguese boy & Polish girl (an Erasmus creation) apparently started
their lives there:-)

Here in Lodz, there is another Portuguese-Polish marriage. And we have
another she friend dating a Portuguese boy planning to do their lives
together (rather in Portugal than here)

Every year -at least here- few boys from my country fall in love for Polish
girls. It seems quite common:-)

I met a few French, Spanish and Italian who dated Polish girls but generally
their relationships were shorter or they didn't want to have any commitements.

Explanation for this? I really don't know.

And what about "Polaco-Portuguesa?"
How it works? Do you know if Portuguese girls finding Polish boys attractive?
Are they entusiastic abouth them?

Answers are welcomme in order to solve the enigma of this:-))

      Hi,
Since in my hometown the Erasmus-Sokrates was initiated, we have been observing
a growing interest of local girls in Portuguese boys. One of my neighbours have
already married a Portuguese guy, and another one has already announced that
she's engaged to a Portuguese. There are a lot of couples of such a kind (a
Portuguese guy and a Polish girl). To such an extent that a local language
school introduced the Portuguese language into its programme. But I have never
seen a couple, where the guy is Polish and the girl - Pportuguese. In fact, we
wrote about it in "Sie hajtamy"

My former teacher, a Portuguese lady, met her husband while she was in Warsaw
(some 15 years ago?). As far as i know they are still married and live near Lisbon.

      Ola,
I am another example of Portuguese(boy)-Polish(girl) couple. Unfortunately we
still leave separately - me in Poland and he in Portugal, but we look for some
opportunieties to leave together (read: find a job).
I am curious,- I think you can have some ideas or show examples - what kind of
job can find Portuguese guy in Poland?

        Hi anka!

I guess probably I know you (if so we already talked about this many times) but
in case that we never met each other I can say to you that jobs related with
        languages and translations.
Best option Warsow of course. Better salaries and not such a great need to talk
very well the rich but astonishing difficult Polish language :)

I hope everything will be ok with both of you. Don't worry be happy!

        Boa sorte!

          Hello portulaco,

We've never talked before (I was on this forum first time).
About jobs related with languages - it's hard for me to imagine this because my
boyfriend doesn't speak Polish (only English and not so perfect). And he is an
          engenheiro de agricultura.
Of course I know that if he won't try never will know if can find something.

          Anyway, thanks for good word.

      Ola/Cześć!
As a former Erasmus in PT I can not say that portuguese girls find polish guys
realy inatractive :P My polish friends had also very high opinion about
Portugueses! It seems that we apreciate potuguese type of beauty much more than
portyguese guys... well - there is some symmetry Poland-Portugal I'm afraid :)
      Pozdrawiam!

Once my wife met a portuguese girl studing in Warsow. This girl had a very good
impression about Polish men (very polite, interesting, with culture)and very
bad about portuguese men (unpolite, uninteresting, without culture etc...) :P

One thing is thrue, Polish men have more polite approach to women (generally)
and I guess this moves southern women but than... Why the hell there are not to
        many "portuguesa-polaco" couples?

Which kind of portuguese beauty you consider the most impressive by the way?

        Ate a vista.

Portulaco, could you be so kind and help me, translate - beijocas nessas
bochechas - beijocas i know of course, but the rest..? my portuguese boyfriend
is very creative but sometimes is difficult for me to find translation
          • portulaco Re: Polish girls & Portuguese boys. Any o 20.10.04, 10:49
Well Magda I don't know how to start because "nessas" means "on those"
and "bochechas" is the word for cheeks (in the face) and also in the bottom!

It's up to your imagination :) If there are other words more let's say spice
better mail me or probably I will be kicked from this forum:-)

          >
          > many "portuguesa-polaco" couples?

Portulaco, the answer is quite simple. The general tendency in international
marriages is that the woman usually comes from a poorer country while the man
from a richer one. This tendency is natural and results from a social
organization of the human race dating back to the Stone Age when a man's task
was to bring food while a woman had to look reasonably pretty and raise
offspring. Nowadays, despite progresses in emancipation of women it is still
usually the man that is supposed to maintain the family, and such a goal is way
easier to achieve if the man is Norwegian and the woman Albanian than on the
          contrary.

So it's quite natural that there are few Portuguese girl-Polish boy couples. As
there are also few Spanish girl-Polish boy couples. And Italian. And French.
And Danish. And so on. But if you look at marriages between Polish and
Ukrainian or Russian people, you'll notice than it is usually a Polish man that
marries a Ukrainian or a Russian woman. Because Ukraine and Russia are poorer
          than Poland.

An exception from this tendency are Muslim countries, where owing to different
family values it is rather unthinkable for a woman to marry a foreign, non-
Muslim man. That's why there are very few Polish man-
Moroccan/Algerian/Tunisian/Egyptian etc woman marriages, while there are quite
many Arab men married to Polish women, in spite of the fact that they come from
          a poorer country.

Of course, there is also another aspect of this phenomenon. As everybody knows,
Polish women have a worldwide reputation for being very pretty and being good
housewives. Such a combination is very tempting for most males, isn´t it? And
now let's take a closer look at Polish men. What are they known for? Hmm... I
don´t know. Maybe for being good at getting boozed up?:)) However I suspect
there are astonishingly few women who would feel tempted by such a quality:)

PS. Of course the observations about Polish men don´t refer to me.

            Hi xavier

I must confess I do like to read your comments, you have very interesting point
            of view.

Regarding this specific matter I must say that in some points I agree totaly
with you. It's true that Polish women are generally beautiful and interesting
and for foreigners they really look astonishing.

You said that usually husbands are from rich countries which is true but there
are many exemples of women from rich countries who married men from poorer
ones. I have a male cousin who married a Swedish women and they live in
            Portugal.

You said that Polish men are know for drinking alcohol but you are not included
so that makes the exception to the rule, you are an exception togheter with
            other thousands of Polish men.

Why so many foreigners are living in Poland if they could live in their rich
countries? My exemple for instance, I couldn't be really happy with my wife in
Portugal and here we're more calm and happy.

Other exemple is the TV programme "Europa da się lubić" were you can see an
English men and other foreigners pretty happy living in one of the poorest
countries of E.U. So I guess money is not the main reason.

            • xavier111 Re: To xavier111 20.10.04, 15:55
I was talking about a tendency, not about an absolute rule. That's why we can
always find exceptions. As your male cousin who married a Swedish woman. Of
course I am not able to show any statistics to prove my point, but I will wager
that there are more Swedish men married to Portuguese women than Swedish women
              married to Portuguese men.

Since you're talking about the place of living, this is another area which
confirms my theory. International couples tend to live in the richer country,
and not in the poorer one. As I said, this is only a tendency. So contraditory
cases (like yours) happen, but they are always minoritary.

So my conclusion is: yes, money is the main reason, however not the only one.

              Um abraço
              • endereco Re: To xavier111 21.10.04, 11:58
As for the place of living chosen by mixed, international couples, I know quite
many Portuguese-guy/Polish-girl couples who live in Poland, almost as many as
living in Portugal. Such a choice - settling in the "richer" of the countries
is much more frequent in case of couples, where the husband or wife come from
other foreign western countries, such as France, Holland or Germany.
But this only confirms the Xavier's theory, because Portugal is not really a
rich country while compared to the countries mentioned above and maybe that's
way the Portuguese are more likely to adapt to their Polish husband's or wife's
                country.
