Sunday Oct. 8th --- Terry Fox Run in Warsaw

01.10.06, 17:19

On Sunday, October 8th at the Łazienki Park in Warsaw, the 11th Terry Fox Run
in support of the fight against cancer will take place. The event will last
between 10:00 and 15:00.

The Terry Fox Run is a family event and it is a run, not a marathon. There are
no losers. Each participant is a winner. Participants can run the distances of
2,5 km, 5 km or 10 km by foot, on roller blades, bike or wheelchair. All funds
raised by the 2005 Warsaw Terry Fox Run went to the Marie Skłodowskiej-Curie
Oncology Centre.
For those of you who are not familiar with Terry Fox and his legacy, Terry is
a Canadian hero who, following the loss of his leg to bone cancer, started a
run across Canada. He ran 42 km (length of a marathon) each day for over 140
days before the cancer metastasized. He died at a young age in 1981. To date
more than 360 million dollars have been raised in his name for cancer
research. Each year thousands of volunteer-organized runs take place al over
the world, but the event is naturally best known throughout Canada.
I have organized the Montreal runs for two years in a row in and the event is
a lot of fun. Take your kids to the park, donate whatever you can and have
fun. Depending on the organizers, these events are usually accompanied by a
barbecue or other additional activities.
