WOJNA W SUDANIE
Wojna domowa w Sudanie trwa już od 40 lat (z kilkakrotną przerwą,
trwającą w sumie 11 lat; ostatnia faza konfliktu trwa nieprzerwanie od 1983
r.). Jest to jeden z najdłuższych i najbardziej krwawych konfliktów w
Afryce. Spowodował tak wielką katastrofę, iż może się przyczynić do
destabilizacji całego regionu "Rogu Afryki".
Potworna , przymusowa islamizacja ludności nieislamskiej, coraz mocniej
wspieranej przez władze, opanowane przez Narodowy Front Islamski odbywa sie
wszystkimi metodami.

Islam i chrześcijaństwo
Muzułmanie stanowią 69% spośród 29 mln mieszkańców Sudanu,
chrześcijanie zaś 13%. Jest wśród nich 2 mln katolików oraz 1,5 mln
prawosławnych i protestantów. Większość chrześcijan pochodzi z południa
kraju, lecz wielu musiało uciekać na północ do obozów przesiedleńczych.
Kościół katolicki, złożony z 9 diecezji skupionych w 2 metropoliach
(Juba i Chartum), liczy 9 biskupów i 3 administratorów diecezji, 230 księży
(połowa to Sudańczycy) oraz ponad 200 seminarzystów.

Reżim sudański dąży do przymusowego utworzenia z mieszanego pod
względem etnicznym i religijnym społeczeństwa państwa islamsko-arabskiego, i
to wbrew woli większości czarnej ludności. Efektem tej polityki jest od roku
1983 ok. 1,5 mln zabitych i ponad 5 mln uchodźców. Przedstawiciel rządu
sudańskiego w ONZ nie potwierdził jednak gwałcenia podstawowych praw
człowieka w Sudanie, przeciwnie - oskarżył o antyislamską propagandę
organizacje charytatywne, Amnesty International, specjalnego wysłannika ONZ
dr Gaspara Bira i inne organizacje walczące o przestrzeganie praw człowieka.
Jeden z sudańskich biskupów w swym orędziu do ludzi Zachodu
pisze: "Arabska mniejszość północnego Sudanu chce przy pomocy siły zniszczyć
afrykańską tradycję, naszą wiarę i sposób życia południowego Sudanu. Służą
temu wszelkie metody prowadzenia wojny - terror, tortury i zagłodzenie".

pomiędzy Sudańską Armią Wyzwoleńczą (SPLA) a ludnością cywilną. Rząd
podejrzewa uciekinierów, iż są "piątą kolumną" SPLA, są więc tak samo
niebezpieczni. Niewinna ludność cywilna na południu kraju, która straciła
wszystko i pragnie uratować choćby samo życie, jest traktowana przez reżim
sudański jak cel wojskowy. Jest to zgodne z ustawą o odpowiedzialności
rodowej, która została przyjęta przez rząd sudański w r. 1991. Zgodnie z nią
rząd może karać za "przestępstwo przynależności do SPLA lub choćby sympatię
do niego" któregokolwiek członka szerokiej rodziny - całego rodu. Podobnie
Sudańska Armia Wyzwoleńcza (SPLA) wielokrotnie naruszyła Deklarację Praw
Człowieka.


Zostań muzułmaninem lub umrzyj!
Muzułmańskie oddziały rządowe północy od lat prowadzą krwawą wojnę
przeciw chrześcijańskiemu i animistycznemu południu. Ich celem jest
islamizacja całego kraju. Skutkiem tego planu są fale uchodźców,
zmierzających do wszystkich okolicznych krajów. Uciekinierzy w Pariangu
opisują metody wojsk rządowych:

który w r. 1991 dostali się do niewoli wojsk rządowych w mieście Pachala.
Zostali umieszczeni w islamskim ośrodku kształcenia. Później zostali
sprzedani jako niewolnicy bogatym muzułmanom w Arabii Saudyjskiej, Libii i
Iranie. Udało mi się pomóc uciec jednemu z tych niewolników."
Wkrótce potem do niewoli wojsk rządowych wpadł sam Clemens Deng.
10.07.93 r. pięciu zamaskowanych mężczyzn przyprowadziło go do opuszczonego
domu. Tam bez końca bili go i torturowali wstrząsami elektrycznymi.
Umierającego Denga porzucili na ulicy przed kościołem. Równocześnie zabito
przyjaciół Denga: Petera Malwal i Johna Pol, zaś Emmanuel Henry zaginął bez
śladu.

(news - web sites) employees in 1993 in revenge or U.S. policy in the Middle
East, lost his last appeal and was scheduled for execution on Thursday.

On Jan. 25, 1993, Kasi, also known in Pakistan as Kansi, parked his pickup near
CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, during rush hour, picked up an AK-47 and
began methodically shooting into cars at a stoplight.
Two people were killed and three wounded before he got back into his truck and
left the scene unhindered. He flew to Pakistan the next day but was arrested in
1997, convicted and sentenced to die.

KADUNA, Nigeria (Reuters) - At least 105 people have been killed in riots in
Nigeria stoked by Muslim fury over the country's staging of the Miss World
(news - web sites) contest next month, Red Cross officials said on Friday.




More than 500 people have also been injured in the street riots in the
northern city of Kaduna, where enraged youths have torched churches and
mosques.


The violence, sparked by a newspaper article suggesting the Prophet Mohammad
would probably have married one of the Miss World beauty queens, resembled
massive sectarian bloodletting in the region two years ago that killed
thousands.


The bloody mayhem then stemmed from non-Muslim opposition to plans to
introduce Islamic sharia law in Kaduna state in the predominantly Muslim
north, but this time Muslim fury has been touched off by the Miss World
pageant set for December 7.


Nigeria won the right to stage the contest after Nigerian Agbani Darego won
the last event in South Africa.


Residents of Kaduna, a city scarred by burned out buildings and with
overturned cars littering its streets, said sporadic shooting could be heard
on Friday morning as soldiers and police battled rioters despite a 24-hour
curfew.


Kaduna residents said Muslims were accusing authorities of trying to bar them
from Friday prayers with the curfew.


"The 105 are identifiable deaths," Nigerian Red Cross president Emmanuel
Ijewere told Reuters by phone from the capital Abuja, adding that the tally
came from his field officers in Kaduna.


He suggested the toll could rise further, saying: "There are some houses that
have not been entered. It is possible that there are injured in these
houses."


Red Cross spokesman Patrick Bawa said 521 injured people had been evacuated
to Kaduna hospitals by Thursday night.


The riots erupted on Wednesday when rampaging Muslim youths burned the Kaduna
offices of the independent Lagos-based daily This Day, whose November 16
article sparked the violence.

The unrest quickly turned into a general protest against Miss World contest,
to be held in Abuja.

RESIDENTS DEFY CURFEW

After the shooting on Friday morning in Kaduna, the streets of the city of
four million people were teeming by midday. Residents said they were defying
the curfew in anger at the local governor.

"People are angry because the governor refused to receive a group of
protesters who came yesterday to deliver a petition against the newspaper
article," one resident said.

"Instead security forces fired teargas and opened fire, killing five people
right there at the gate of government house," said the resident, asking not
to be named.

Witnesses said angry youths tore down the re-election campaign posters of
Governor Ahmed Makarfi, a political ally of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

"Muslims are angry about the curfew. They believe the governor is trying to
prevent them going to the Mosque today," another resident said. Friday
prayers are often a flashpoint of unrest in the volatile region.

Soldiers and police have been put on the alert in northern Nigeria's biggest
city of Kano, just north of Kaduna. Relations between the Muslim majority and
a significant and assertive Christian minority in Kaduna state have always
been tense.

BEAUTY QUEENS CONFINED TO HOTEL

More than 90 Miss World contestants, who arrived in Nigeria on November 10
despite raging controversy around this year's pageant, were confined to their
hotel in Abuja on Friday.

Pageant organizers have insisted the event will go ahead.

The Miss World contest, which Nigerian officials hope will showcase the
country and add to its tourist appeal, initially ran into trouble amid
worldwide publicity over Amina Lawal, a 31-year-old woman who was sentenced
under Islamic law to death by stoning for bearing a child out of wedlock.

Following assurances by the government that no one would be stoned, some 90
contestants arrived in Nigeria last week, with many voicing support for Lawal
and other women sentenced to death by courts enforcing Islamic sharia law.

Obasanjo's government has appealed for calm, and said that anyone found
fomenting disorder would be decisively dealt with.

This Day newspaper ran its third apology for its controversial report on
Thursday's front page since it first published the story. It said the article
went out in error.

Armia izraelska przyznała się w sobotę do omyłkowego zastrzelenia Brytyjczyka
z ONZ podczas piątkowej operacji wojskowej w Dżenin na Zachodnim Brzegu

Według armii żołnierze odpowiedzieli na ogień bojówkarzy palestyńskich
strzelających z siedziby ONZ w Dżenin i uznali za pistolet telefon komórkowy,
przez który w swoim biurze 53-letni Ian Hook negocjował ewakuację personelu
ONZ. Rzecznik ONZ oświadczył, że według wstępnych ustaleń organizacji z biura
Hooka nikt nie strzelał i wersja Izraela jest "niewiarygodna".

Śmierć Brytyjczyka, który z ramienia ONZ odbudowywał domy palestyńskie

Pakistan church attack kills three


Security outside churches has been tightened

Unidentified assailants have killed at least three people in a grenade
attack on a church in Pakistan's central Punjab province, police say.
At least seven others were injured in the attack at Daska, near Lahore.

Earlier in the day, police said they found two grenades and ammunition near
a church in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.


Pakistani Christians have suffered many attacks
The BBC's Zaffar Abbas in Islamabad says the attack came as police began
lowering their guard after tightening security across Pakistan to protect
churches during Christmas.

Attacks on Christians in Pakistan in the past year have left about 40 people
dead.

Most have been blamed on Islamic militants with links to al-Qaeda, who are
angry at Pakistan's support for the United States-led war against
international terrorism. Militants see that as a war against Islam.

"Two masked men threw a hand grenade on the church during the service," a
police official said.

He said the incident took place at 2030 (1530 GMT) in a village church some
20 kilometres (13 miles) from Daska.


Seven people were shot in the head in September
One child was killed instantly, and a woman died on her way to hospital,
doctors said. Four of the injured remained in a critical condition.

No one has said they carried out the attack, but the authorities suspect
militants of one of several banned Islamic groups.

Earlier, Pakistani security officials said they found a shopping bag
containing two grenades and 20 shell casings in bushes about 100 metres from
St Thomas' Protestant Church in Islamabad.

"I don't know what the motive was of the people who left these two hand
grenades and some other ammunition," a senior interior ministry official,
Brigadier Javed Cheema, told the Associated Press news agency.

Christian fears

In the last major attack against Christians in September, two gunmen entered
the third-floor offices of the Institute for Peace and Justice (IPJ) charity
in Karachi, shooting seven people before escaping.

The deaths sparked a wave of anger in the community and were linked to
previous attacks on the Christian minority, which have been blamed on
Islamic militants.


Security at Christian sites around the country is tight
But in October, a man suspected of involvement in the attack was released
because of lack of evidence.

Police say recent investigations suggest that the killings at the IPJ might
have been the result of internal rivalries within the local Christian
community in the city.

The attack caused particular shock because of the way it was carried out.

All the victims had had their hands tied and their mouths covered with tape.

They had then been shot in the head.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Despite a devastating rebel bomb attack on the pro-Moscow
government headquarters in Chechnya (news - web sites), Russian politicians
vowed on Saturday to implement President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites)'s
peace plan for the separatist region.

Friday's suicide bombing killed at least 46 people and turned Chechnya's most
heavily guarded building into ruins.


It also raised questions about Russia's ability to defend itself against rebel
attacks, coming just two months after Chechen guerrillas seized some 800
hostages in a Moscow theater.


Despite shock and anger at the images on Russian television, politicians said
Putin's plans to give the mostly Muslim region a constitution and an elected
leader should not be altered.


"We should not lapse into any extraordinary measures, we should not panic,"
Viktor Ozerov, defense and security commission chairman at the Federation
Council upper chamber, said in the Izvestia daily.


Ozerov said establishing constitutional order and civilian rule in Chechnya,
where Russian troops die almost daily from rebel attacks, remained a priority.


Russia's elections chief also signaled that the latest bloody attack was
unlikely to force a change of heart in Moscow.


"I don't agree that we need to cancel the referendum (on a new pro-Russia
constitution for Chechnya) because of what has happened," Alexander Veshnyakov

SANAA, Yemen (Reuters) - A Yemeni shot dead three American doctors and
critically wounded a U.S. pharmacist Monday at a missionary hospital in the
south of the impoverished country.



Yemeni officials named the gunman as 32-year-old Abed Abdel Razzak Kamel and
said he was an Islamist militant who had told police after his arrest that he
had shot the two men and two women to "cleanse his religion and get closer to
Allah."


The U.S. embassy confirmed the victims were U.S. citizens and said they were
working at the Jibla Baptist hospital in Ebb province, some 105 miles south of
the capital Sanaa.


"The gunman confessed to being a member of (Yemen's) Islamic Jihad group and
said he shot the Americans because they were preaching Christianity in a Muslim
country," one Yemeni official said.


Witnesses said Kamel had entered the hospital posing as a patient then opened
fire on the four Americans at the outpatient clinic when it was his turn to
receive treatment.


Yemen is seen in the West as a haven for Muslim militants, including members of
the al Qaeda network which Washington blames for the attacks on the United
States last year.


Anti-U.S. sentiment has been running high in many Arab countries in recent
months, prompted by anger at Washington's support for Israel, the U.S.-led war
against Afghanistan (news - web sites) and a possible attack against Iraq.


U.S. officials declined to name the victims and said in a statement a team of
U.S. investigators had been sent to Jibla.


"We still don't know how to describe this incident," a U.S. diplomat said.


Hospital administrator Julie Toma told CNN from Jibla she believed it was an
isolated incident.

KUWAIT (Reuters) - An American working for the U.S. military was shot dead and
another was wounded in an ambush on their car Tuesday near a U.S. base in
Kuwait where Washington is preparing for a possible war on Iraq.

The U.S. Embassy condemned the incident as a terrorist attack. It was the third
time since October that Americans have been killed or injured in attacks in
Kuwait.


The men were ambushed at around 9:15 a.m. while driving on a highway north of
Kuwait City near Camp Doha, the main U.S. army base in Kuwait. The U.S. embassy
said they were contractors with a firm working for the Defense Department.


Kuwaiti police said one or more attackers had opened fire from trees and bushes
at the side of the road before escaping by car. Cartridge cases believed to be
from rounds fired from a Kalashnikov rifle or rifles were found at the scene.


Reuters journalists at the scene said the dead man's body was removed from a
tan-colored four-wheel-drive vehicle about two hours after the attack. Dozens
of police sealed off roads in the area, and Kuwait's interior minister visited
the scene.


One side of the vehicle was riddled with more than 20 bullets, and the
windshield was also fractured. Some of the side windows had been shot out
completely. A pool of blood was visible on the road, until police covered it
with sand.


"We condemn this terrorist incident which has tragically cost the life of an
innocent American citizen," the U.S. ambassador to Kuwait, Richard Jones, said
in a statement.


"We have full confidence that the Kuwaiti authorities will pursue their
investigation of the incident vigorously and professionally."


The embassy said the injured man had been shot in the shoulder and thigh and
was in hospital in Kuwait City.


ATTACKS ON MILITARY


More than 15,000 U.S. soldiers are in Kuwait and more are arriving every week
ahead of a possible war with Iraq. The military also employs a large number of
U.S. civilian contractors to help run its camps.


Last November, a Kuwaiti policeman shot and seriously wounded two U.S. soldiers
on a highway south of Kuwait City and the previous month two Kuwaitis attacked
U.S. Marines training on an island, killing one. There have also been several
reports of shots fired at U.S. troops training in the Kuwaiti desert.


Kuwait Parliament Speaker Jassem al-Kharafi said the latest attack was not the
work of organized groups.


"These are individual acts which do not reflect the feelings of Kuwaiti
society," he said. "These acts are the work of ignorant, destructive people."


Earlier this week Kuwaiti officials said they had arrested a Kuwaiti soldier
suspected of spying for Iraq. Kuwaiti newspapers have said the man had been
plotting attacks on U.S. targets in Kuwait, including a possible attempt to
poison U.S. troops.


Kuwait is likely to be a launchpad for a U.S. invasion of Iraq if Baghdad does
not satisfy Washington's demand that it prove itself free of weapons of mass
destruction. Iraq insists it has no chemical, biological or nuclear arms.


Kuwait is a key U.S. ally and the government is publicly grateful to Washington
for leading the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites) that drove out occupying Iraqi
troops from the oil-rich country.

Saudis Vow Al Qaeda Will Regret Suicide Bombings

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia said on Wednesday it would make al Qaeda pay
for suicide bombings that killed 34 people, including seven Americans, and
would hunt down the masterminds with FBI (news - web sites) help.

But the U.S. ambassador to Riyadh criticized the kingdom for failing to
respond swiftly to U.S. demands for tighter security at the housing compounds
for foreigners which the attackers stormed on Monday, killing at least seven
Americans.


The U.S. embassy, which is sending home all but essential staff, said it would
evacuate any of the 40,000 Americans in the country who wanted to leave.


Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal promised to find those behind the
bombings, the first major attack on U.S. targets since the United States waged
war on Iraq (news - web sites) to stamp out terrorism and oust Saddam Hussein
(news - web sites).


"Saudi Arabia is committed to...striking with an iron fist all who are
tampering with the country's security," he told a news conference in Riyadh.


"Whoever did this will regret it because they have unified this country's
determination to extract this cancer (terrorism) and ensure that it doesn't
return."


President Bush (news - web sites) said the bombing meant the war on terror
launched after September 11, 2001, was far from over.


A U.S. official said a team of FBI agents was waiting in Germany for Saudi
approval to head to the kingdom.


Saudi officials said the prime suspects in the blasts were a group of 19 al
Qaeda suspects, who disappeared in Riyadh last week after a shootout with
police. A high-level Saudi security official said the army was erecting
checkpoints all over the vast desert kingdom.


"We believe this group is behind the terrorist attack and suspect that they
have links to al Qaeda," he told Reuters.


AL QAEDA HALLMARKS


Officials and terror experts said the attacks bore all the hallmarks of Saudi-
born Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s al Qaeda network, the group blamed
for the 2001 attacks on America which prompted a U.S.-led war on Afghanistan
(news - web sites) to try to root it out.


The British Foreign Office said after the blasts there was a "high threat" of
more attacks against Western interests in Saudi Arabia. It said two of its
citizens were missing.


In a U.S. television interview, the U.S. Ambassador in Riyadh Robert Jordan
criticized the Saudi authorities for not responding quickly to U.S. requests
for more security.


He also said the conservative Muslim kingdom where Saudis sympathize with bin
Laden had a "long way to go" to ending terror attacks against foreigners.


But Prince Saud, who refused to discuss any details about the attacks, said
there was no way the kingdom could have ignored the U.S. demands "if they were
feasible."


WESTERN FIRMS STAY PUT





Despite the heightened security threat, many Western firms said they had no
plans to walk away from the lucrative business to be had in the world's
biggest oil exporter, which also has a huge defense budget.

The bombings were carried out just hours before a scheduled visit by Secretary
of State Colin Powell (news - web sites), who has been on a Middle East tour
to explain U.S. policy after the overthrow of Iraqi president Saddam Hussein
and has traveled on to Moscow.

Monday's attacks could widen rifts between Riyadh and Washington, deepening
American suspicions of an ally now seen as a source of Islamist militancy, and
fueling the resentment of many Saudis at U.S. policy toward Iraq and the
Palestinians.

Despite this anger, many Saudis said innocent expatriates living in their
country did not deserve this.

"What does this have to do with Islam? These criminals are harming us Muslims
more than anybody else," said Nala al-Dhaher, a Saudi woman who lost her
brother and friends in the attacks.

Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi ambassador in Washington, said in a statement of
condolence to victims' families that the perpetrators had committed a "crime
against humanity."

Saudi de facto ruler Crown Prince Abdullah denounced the attacks and vowed
they would not destabilize the kingdom, where there have been several anti-
Western attacks in recent years.

Assailants drove, guns blazing, into three guarded housing compounds for
expatriates shortly before midnight and set off huge car bombs.

The bombers killed two Saudi soldiers and wounded two others at the main gate
of one well-defended compound housing employees of U.S. defense contractor
Northrop Grumman Vinnell Corp subsidiary before blowing the front off a four-
story building housing unaccompanied or bachelor employees.

The company said seven U.S. citizens and two Philippine nationals were killed.
Of the 70 men who usually sleep in the building, 50 were out in the desert
that night on an exercise.
