      ROASTED coffee.

By definition toasting (or browning) means cooking to a brown crispiness over a
fire or on a grill. If you have a gas stove, and put your freshly picked green
coffee beans into a skillet and turn up the heat, you are ready to toast your
      coffee.
Roasting, on the other hand, means putting the beans into a coffee roaster that
is being cranked up to some 390-460 degrees Celsius. The difference between
toasting and rosting is only in the way the heat is being distibuted through
the beans. Either way, the coffee beans will lose moisture, change from green
to brown and grow in volume. I have poked around a few web sites and some of
them (very few though) have those two processes mixed up.
Quality wise, they say roasted coffee has superior flavor because it's not
blasted with heat. The heat from roasting gets through the beans evenly and
      brings out the best flavor.

      toasted - grzana na ogniu
roasted - "pieczona" w coffee roaster

"parzona" suggest the use of steam and I am sure it's not that.

A po polsku to chyba palona...
        • kylie1 Re: Toasted coffee 25.06.05, 21:56
Possibly. I think "palona" suggests direct heat. Maybe "prazona"? I was
thinking about "pieczona" but it sounds like someone thew in a chunk of roast
in the oven. Doesn't sound good to me.

          :)
