shrivel ... what does it mean

Maybe sb. knows the meaning of the word shrievel(ing) in the context:
"The Santa Anas blew in hot from the desert, shrieveling the last of the
spring grass into ...."

      Well, my Polish is not good enough to tell if your question has been answered
      already, so just in case:
      I think in your sentence 'shrivel' means to dry the grass and make it shrink
      (make it very small). Imagine a hot storm in the desert blowing over the
      grass - what effect does it have on that grass?

      "to shrivel" means "to contract" . It does not have to dry at the same time. As
      in this example "penis shrivels when you take cold shower". Sorry for
      unintended fun.
