        A thorough passion for failure?

Or, as O. Burkeman puts it,"Almost accomplishing a pioneering feat, then
failing utterly but honourably at the last minute, has generally been a
reliable way to achieve immortality in Britain."

        Ever heard of Percy Pilcher?

          Dear Chicks,

You may wish to submerge us in endless columns of futile
          de-spiritilisation but ....
          Ha!
There's whiskey which (as you know)

          and brandy....
          which in turn

          and finally red bull
          which gives you....

So who the hell needs fucking gliders!?
And most importantly who the fuck needs Guardian with all this potent

Don't stress, it's only stupid fireworks, not the end of the world.

Passion and all things British do not mix, and if you're looking for passion,
you're better off some place else.
      • Gość: m passion and all things British IP: 5.5R* / *.cache.pol.co.uk 02.01.04, 05:19
I disagree. There's nothing stupid about fireworks.
Have you seen "Anna &The King" ?

Besides what does "British" mean right now?

I think you're confusing British with English.
It is a great country full of great people (Tony not being one of them,
        unfortunately) but it lacks passion.

Passion and fire are absolutely essential in all manner of
things...fireworks being but one of them.

good job m. another powerful pitch for building a better world.
there is no such thing as race. we are all one big happy family. ask any
genetesist - but not those blond types with calipers and syringes.

just as an aside and almost on topic: the best firework displays I have seen
anywhere have been in England. I'm not a great fan of that kind of stuff, pain
in the neck, you see. in this country (that I'm in) you can't even get

Of course you can't ! A kid at school would turn one into a weapon of mass

what, you think children would take crackers into schools and slaughter their
classmates (after some modifications to the said ordinance). they don't need no
                  crackers, they got guns.

here, where it never rains, we lie on our backs on rocks and cactus and watch

You see, the little punks over here celebrate a little charming tradition (in
memory of Guy Fawkes) of throwing crackers at each other (and the
innocent by-standers ), so if you're happy with your face as it is you will not

I thought crackers were those tubular things which people grabbed at each end,
pulled - it goes "crack" (thus the name) and some plastic gifty thing falls to
                      the floor.
perhaps crackers have grown in my absence from the UKkh and become more
                      offensive.

I do recall during my last visit that first Fireworks Night morphed into
Fireworks month, then gradually merged with Diwali slowly edging into the New
                      Year and beyond.
