What do Polish people think about francesinha?

24.11.04, 12:55
Hello Polish people!

I would like to know the opinion of Polish people who have tried francesinha.

Did you find it delicious and became fan?

Did you considered it heavy for the stomach?

May be you detested and francesinha made you the wish to run away to the next
airport and fly away to Poland!

I appreciate a lot and I miss a good francesinha especial com batata (with
french fries).

For those who don't know this dish francesinha is like a sandwich, it's
served in a plate with a spicy special sause (made with alcoholic drinks)
and can be with or without french fries.

The sandwich contains a beef, two different sausages and ham and it's covered
with yellow melted chesse, two olives and usually one shrimp in a toohpick.

Shoud be eaten togheter with beer. A good place to eat francesinha is in the
restaurant chain "Cascata". Me and Polaquinha reccomend it.

If someone would like to prepare this dish at home here it goes:

Bom Apetite!

2 thin slices of rye bread
4 thin slices of ham
60g/2 1/2oz sirloin steak
1 linguiça
1 sausage
15g/ 1/2oz butter
3 thin slices Dutch cheese

For the sauce

200ml/7floz seafood sauce
50ml/2floz beer
1tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1tsp mustard
2tbsp brandy
1tbsp butter

Toast the bread, brush with the melted butter, and fry the steak, the sausage
and the linguiça.

Put the ham, the sausage cut in the middle, the steak and the linguiça
between the two slices of bread.

Cover with the cheese and put in the oven until it melts.

Boil the ingredients for the sauce and then coat the Francesinha.

      Hi Portulaco,

Well, francesinha sounds like something that can´t be eaten more than once a
month if you care about your health and waistline:)

To be honest I have never eaten it. But promise that next time in Porto I will
      try it.

It is also possible to have francesinhas in Lisbon, but I doubt if they are as
      good as in Porto.
      • portulaco Xavier go to Centro comercial Vasco da Gama 24.11.04, 14:46
        Hi!

In Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama in Lisbon, go to Cascata restaurant and ask
for francesinha a Cascata, ask a Super-Bock and enjoy:-)

Taste is the same as in Porto.

When you will go to Porto buy yourself a francesinha com batata in Restauranre
Capa Negra, Rua do campo Alegre, 191 or at Restaurante Cufra na Avenida da
        Boavista, 2504.

        Smacznego Kolego!

Thanx Portulaco and Anjos for tips. At the moment I have no plans to go to
Porto (of course I need a better reason to go there than just uma francesinha),
but this weekend I'm going to Vasco da Gama to try francesinhas recommended by
Portulaco. And surely I will give account of what I think of little Frenchies:)

BTW, Portulaco, maybe you could also recommend me a restaurant in Lisbon where
they have good tripas. I've just realised how damn alfacinha I am: I have never
tried many dishes typical of the north, including tripas. Time to change it.
            • portulaco To Xavier: Comer e Beber a Fartazana! 25.11.04, 15:14
              Hi Xavier.

I'm seated in this office 3200km from Portuguese border and thinking about
              francesinha! I envy you!!! ;-))

Believe it or not I never tried "tripas a moda do Porto" but when visiting
Porto you must try, almost every single restaurant in the city serves "Tripas"
so no frills! There is also one serving "Barbatana de tubarao - Shark fins and
Bife de Crocodilo - Crocodile beef"

As you perfectly know the more oil stinky and "tasca" look like the restaurant
looks the best food you can eat, could be nice to drink a "tinto da talha"
              together with the dish.

There is a nice restaurant in a alley in Sa da Bandeira street I don't recall
the name but when you will have time go to Porto say something.

You MUST visit Porto because is really a different city - forget about Porto-
              Lisboa rivalry and enjoy -

Say hello to Parque-Expo for me.

well, according to common opinion the best francesinhas are in Porto (place
called "bufet" top of vis catarina). but I think that the best ones are in
cafe "royal" in penafiel! go and try when you're in the neighbourhood!)

I truly deeply and madly love francesinhas!

thanks for recipe since i've been trying to re-create the taste (especially
                sauce) in here.

I clicked on menina but your e-mail didn't apear in the dialogue box. Can you
                    give me it?

                    Obrigado.

                  Hi!

I will send you a message to your Gazeta mail because I have plenty of family
                  around Penafiel and Freamunde.

Maybe you know some of them.

Let me tell you one thing - it's not easy to be a vegtarian in Portugal...
Even if i'm not "ideological vegetarian" and tolerate a tiny bit ofbacon on my
pizza, but avoiding heavy-meat or lot-of-fish dishes here is not easy.
