You know you're Polish when...


01. You have at least one relative who wore a full Polish
Dress with sequins for special occasions.

02. You spent your entire childhood thinking that everyone
went to Polish School on Saturday and CCD on Sunday!

03. Your family dog understood Polish.

04. Every Sunday afternoon of your childhood was spent
visiting your Babcia or Ciocia Marysia

05. You've experienced the phenomena of 150 people fitting
into Babcia's basement during a family party.

06. You were surprised to discover the FDA recommends you
eat three meals a day that consist of something besides
pierogi and golombki.

07. You thought eating sour cream sandwiches with sugar
sprinkled on top of it was absolutely normal.

08. You ate kotlety for dinner at least three times a week,
and every Sunday.

09. You grew up thinking no fruit or vegetable had a fixed
price and that the price of everything was negotiable
through haggling!

10. You were speaking Polish before you were English.

11. You thought everyone's last name ended in the letters
s-k-i.

12. You thought nylons were supposed to be worn like knee
hi's with a short skirt so you can see the reinforcements at
the top.

13. Your mom's main hobby is cleaning.

14. You were surprised to find out that Polish food was
actually sold in stores.

15.You thought that everyone made their own kielbasa.

16. You never ate meat on Christmas Eve or Good Friday.

17. You ate star cookies and paczki for dessert.

18. You thought Catholic was the only religion in the world.

19. Your were beaten at least once with a wooden spoon, a
belt, or a broom or all of the above.

20. You thought every meal had to be eaten with a a piece of
rye bread in your left hand.

21. You can understand Polish better than you can speak it.

22. You have at least one relative who came over on the
boat.

23. All of your uncles fought in a World War.

24. You have at least six male relatives named Stasiu,
Wladek, or Janek.

25. You have relatives who aren't really your relatives.

26. You have relatives you don't speak to.

27. You drank beer or vodka before you were a teenager.

28. You grew up in a house with a yard that didn't have one
patch of dirt that didn't have a flower or a vegetable
growing out of it

29. Going out for a cup of coffee usually meant going out
for a cup of barszcz over Babcia's house.

30. Your relative's furniture was as comfortable as sitting
on plastic.

31. You thought that having a party every weekend with all
your aunts and uncles getting drunk and singing and dancing
until the wee hours of the morning was normal.

32. You thought star cookies and kruscziki were common at
all weddings.

33. You thought everyone got pinched on the cheeks and money
stuffed in their pockets by their relatives, especially
during the holidays!

34. Your mother is overly protective of the males in the
family no matter what their age!

35. There was a crucifix in every room of the houseand the
Holy Mary on your front lawn!

36. You couldn't say a bad word, even stupid, around your
mother without getting smacked.

37. You called the long skinny pasta Babcia made from
Pierogi dough "snakes".

38. You dreaded taking out your lunch at school.

39. Every condition, ailment, misfortune, memory loss and
accident was attributed to the fact that you didn't eat
something

      01. You make up your own sport, that no other country bothers to play, and the
      winner of national championship is called ironically; "The World Series
      Champions".

      02. You think you can cook a dinner in a microwave.

      03. You think that everything non-american is funny, and not normal.

      04. You can not locate United States on the World Map.

      05. Your hollyday meal always consist of turkey and cooked ham...regardles of
      wchich hollyday it is.

      06. You always catch yourself wearing stretched out and oversize T-shirt,
      regardless of the occassion.

      07. You wear currling rolls on your head and a sweats to the Sunday Mass.

      08. You are not able to speak any foreign language, and demand from others they
      understood it when you visit their country.

      09. You wear a cowboy had or a bseball hat proudly and nonchalantly when on
      vacation in Paris or in Rome.

      10. You are the biggest and the fattest person at the international rally or a
      conference.

      11. You think it that a person has to get married automatically right after
      graduating high-school. And your wife (husband) is included in the package.

      12. You think that the chicken meat is produced in a factory.

      13. You think you're the smartest nation in the World, but academically falling
      behind all industrialised countries and most of the third world and Africa.

      14. You think that Europe is a big theme park for Americans, and the local
      people just work for you.

      15. You are suprised to discover that people in the countries have cars and
      they were not created just to serve you when you're on vacation in their land.

      16. You think you can pick up the girl in abroads by saying "Whatsup babe".

      17. Your idea behind good party is sitting around and watching football game on
      TV in the living room and drinking bear with your buddies.

      19. You think that formal clothing and a suite supposose to be worn only at
      weddings, funerals and for a job interview.

      20. You are suprised and demand a to do it over, when your national team gets
      beaten up in basketball by half of the European national teams. And a black
      tennis player believes she should have receive special treatment and win every
      tournament in the World because she is black and the affirmative action applies
      everywhere in the World.

      Who am I then if I am not Polish any more??? You've just deprived me of my
      origins...

      Or maybe you made me aware I've lived in Holland (not in Poland as I believed)
