czy ktoś mi może prztłumaczyć zdanie: 2 lata temu ukończyłem prawo na
Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Czy określenie graduade można stosować wyłącznie
do szkoły średniej?

...2 years ago, I've graduated with the law degree from the University of
      Warsaw...

        2 poprawki:
        I graduated...
        a law degree

          ...whatever...both forms are correct...

no - you were incorrect twice:

            (1) you specified the time ( 2 years ago); hence, "I graduated"

            (2) your degree is of unknown type, and the university may grant many different
types of law degree; hence "a law degree"

...from the nitpicking point of view, certainly...so to make sure we are
talking about the same thing, a question...how many law degrees can you
graduate with?...I know of only one...Bachelor of Laws...if you were to refer
to advanced degrees you would specify which one you have in mind...still I have
been known to be wrong before;)))...

Two years ago I graduated law school of Warsaw University.

      or

Two years ago I graduated Warsaw University’s law school

I would translate this sentence as 'Two years ago I graduated from Warsaw
        University with a law degree'.

Arnold, poprawne tlumaczenie Twojego zdania :

Dwa lata temu ukonczylem prawo na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.

          jest jak nastepuje:

Two years ago I graduated in law from the University of Warsaw/Warszawa.

1)" I graduated" a nie: "I've graduated" poniewaz podany jest dokladny punkt
czasowy w przeszlosci, tzn."dwa lata temu"

2)ukonczyc prawo: " to graduate in law"

3)"na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim" w tym kontekscie "from the University of
          Warsaw"

Zrodlo: Collins Cobuild - "English Dictionary for Advanced Learners",Harper
          Collins Publishers, 2001, s.680, "graduate"3.

Everything is O.K. but it should be rather 'Law' than 'law' as we mean the name
            of faculty.

To oczywiscie tylko detale, Mia, ale to bylaby dodatkowa informacja, ktorej
wlasciwie nie ma w orginalnym zdaniu. Nie ma wyraznego podkreslenia, ze to
              z "the Faculty of Law".

Tu przytaczam doslowny przyklad z innego slownika:

He graduated from Oxford in law.

Zrodlo: A.S.Hornby,"Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English",
              s.381,"graduate"2 - 2.

W Wielkiej Brytanii wyrazenia "to graduate from" uzywa sie w stosunku do
            uniwersytetu lub college.

W Stanach - w stosunku do high school, college lub university.

You don't "graduate in law" in Ameryka. You garduate from a Law School of such-
            and-such university.
Besides, to be a lawyer one has ho pass the bar exam and gain the title
of "esquire"; with that you become a full fledged lawyer with all the rigtes to
            call yoursef such.
    • zegar4 Re: prośba 11.11.03, 04:26
The verb "graduate" may be a problem word.
"I graduated from..." is common, but it does not make a lot of sense to those
      who care
    • Gość: IP: *.chello.pl Re: prośba IP: *.3web.net 13.11.03, 16:00
      years ago I finished law.
but since u wonna use the term "graduate", then, "years ago i graduated from
      law school."
