I think that there is certain number of factors which _must_ be taken into account: - dummy jobs : advertised by agencies just to increase the number of applicants, which has nothing to do with real offers. It usually looks like this: My client is looking for an experienced developer/programmer with skills: Java/J2EE/J2SE/C++/C#/Python/Bash ... and so on. Of course salary offered will be 20% higher than average to convince people to apply. Later on the same agency will contact and offer "average" or "below-average" salary. - taxes : from all salaries TAX and national insurance must be deducted! Which means that you will get less than the actual figure printed! - cost of living: this subject is a never-ending story. For instance it can cost from £150 a month to £1500 just for accommodation. If you want to get a rough idea about salaries I'd suggest visiting itjobswatch.com + many Polish portals before moving to the UK! Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
Gość: Steve Re: salary j2ee and C# IP: *.kajetany.net 29.08.09, 09:24 There are always risks, but many Poles have had the guts to make the leap. Polish computer programming skills currently have a very high reputation world wide. From people in the business I have met, both the opportunities and money in Poland is limited. Ralph's comment and the current economic situation notwithstanding, Robbie could well have a good opportunity in the UK and provide the type of expertise that helps the British government claim that immigrants provide a positive benefit to the UK economy. Think positive. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
Gość: Pablo londek Re: salary j2ee and C# IP: *.bmly.cable.ntl.com 08.09.09, 15:39 Hi Steve, First of all I am glad that majority of British Citizens - like you, are showing their welcoming attitude towards migrating Poles. I always believed that, despite the historical issues dividing our countries, we always, as nations, tried to help and support each other. As you said, I am sure that many experienced Poles will find their own place somewhere within the UK borders, however, as immigrants we have to be aware that we are on foreign land. Thus the more questions we will ask before deciding to move the better perspective we can expect. This also includes preparations which have to make before migrating. There are many factors, which are significant when deciding about migrations: Which place should I go? How good are my communication skills? What chances do we have to find a proper job? Will I accept another opportunity below my expectations? How will I feel without support of the family and friends? Will I struggle to live among people of different cultures, languages and religions? How will I cope without fresh horseradish, smoked sausages, bigos and other goods, easily available in Poland? Despite the above, I am sure that majority of Poles, who already took this decision, feel that it was the right choice. Obviously I am one of them, and after 3 years spent in London I feel that finally I have fulfilled my dreams and my aspirations. Thanks to places like London I know that impossible becomes possible, of course nothing comes without hard work, sacrifice and openness to other style of living. Regards Pawel Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś

Gość: Ralph Re: salary j2ee and C# IP: *.zone8.bethere.co.uk 01.09.09, 23:14 Pablo, Robbie's question was about the AVERAGE daily or monthly salary. I don't know anyone who can tell that from his/her own experience, do you? All we can do is to find the average advertised salary on the job portals. Example: www.reed.co.uk/CareerTools/SalaryCalculator.aspx. A few other useful links: - tax calculator: listentotaxman.com/ - best job site for programmers: www.jobserve.com/ Most companies put salary ranges in their adverts and initially we should aim for the lower number. It will change over time though, after a few years in the UK it is going to be slightly better. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
Gość: Pablo londek Re: salary j2ee and C# IP: *.bmly.cable.ntl.com 08.09.09, 15:08 Ralph Peter Thomson says that "people are expecting an answer for the wrong question". In other words there are questions which must be well understood before being answered. If I'd be a programmer thinking of relocating to another country I'd have dozens of questions about profitability of this challenge. Probably I wouldn't be even aware of some of the questions I'd like to ask; or if I'd have already move to the UK and gain my experience about finding the right place for me, I'd probably rephrase some of the already asked questions to get 100% of what I needed at that time. I am sure you get the point. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
