Schizophrenia? ;)

09.09.09, 16:08
I work with a person who describes herself as "US", i.e.:
"If somebody comes please give us a shout."
It happened few times before and everytime she was on her own. Why
she does it? Does she have a sort of disorder like Smeagol had? ;)
Or maybe she does it becuase she is from Durham? ;) (she also
says: "I have done me filing" - rather than "my filing")

She speaks a standard local variation of English. It is quite normal. See 'British English' in Wikipedia.

Yes. Yestarday my partner who works for some local farmers (North
Yorkshire Dales) pointed out that this is the way they talk, a local
        variation of English. :)

I will have a look in Wiki. Thank you, Steve.

It can take me time to think things through, so an addition.

"Give us a shout" is widely used, but it may be a general saying derived from the normal use of 'us'. However, "Give us a cup of tea, Love" was, and perhaps is, a completely normal request in a worker's cafe or canteen in London. 'Us' clearly means 'me' and the addition of 'Love' as a form of address made it a polite request rather than a demand.

Although "me filing" sounds odd to me, "me mum" - ie my mother - sounds normal, so this may also have been in regular use in at least part of South London.
