Polish women dying their hair red

IP: *.icpnet.pl / *.icpnet.pl 26.09.02, 19:47
Aside from the Polish moustache phenomenon, another thing's been bothering
me for a while - Why is it so common for Polish women to dye their hair, and
particularly that bright red you see on middle-aged women? Can anyone shed
some light on this for me?

Indeed. Why is it that every other lassie has her hair dyed in that horrid
      shade of red?
Only visiting Russia did I see such a sea of red. It was so long ago.
Come to mind. I think Hugarian female population also has this affinity for
      the red shade.
Such is my observation as a member of a female population.

The amswer is : Henna !!

Henna?! Well, maybe, up to a point. But I'm sure we've all seen middle-aged
women with that REALLY bright red colour, sort of like a traffic light.
Sometimes it gets a bit orangey, doesn't it. I reckon there's a clear
difference between hennaed hair and this colour. Or maybe I'm wrong...

I think it's henna on white hair.
As far as younger women are concerned, I think there's a whole culture of hair
dying. Polish women were always supposed to be blonde, but because of the
pollution and the hotter climate etc. there ain't many natural blondes anymore.
so there's a lot of dyed (is that how you spell it?) blondes around. On the
other hand, there's the whole thing about being dumb & blonde, so if you don't
want to be on and at the same time don't want your hair to be that boring mouse-
like brown/beige thing (and you have a proper job, where - say - blue is not
quite welcome) your only other choice is red. And henna conditions your hair
instead of spoling it... I don't have to meention I've had tried every possible
shade of red. I love it.
By the way, I once asked a friend of mine, what she thought about some other
woman. And she said: "errr, she's kind of OK, but you know: she NEVER had her
hair dyed". That's what I mean by hair dying culture :-)

I like the red color as well as any other dyed hair color that polish women
use. It is often a bit of a challenge (though not much) to find out what their
      real hair color is :-)

      What are you talking about?

Is there some rescent trend i happened to have missed?
While it is interesting that you seem to notice an influx of red-haired women,
i do not beleive this can be found true for the whole of Polish society.

Maybe you just like red-heads ;)

I don't know why... but sometimes I find women on pictures of Picasso definitely more attractive when I rush through the city centre.

Besides I love redheads. But to be readheaded woman the sense of taste is recommended.

      Sir Mixalot,
My answear to you question is simple; the reason why Polish women dye their
hair red is because that's how they like it. Secondly not all polish men have
mustaches, but those that do ....have one because they fathers and grandparents
had mustaches...Besides men with mustaches in no Polish phenomenom. Try to find
a Mexican gentelman over 20 years old without mustaches....once I've myself
wondered how come they all come with those bushy mustaches..lol

How you put it should I assume that you don’t like it or you asking for
        information ?
Moustache is part of tradition in Poland and other countries in Asia or Spain
        or Spanish speaking countries.
It was fashion in 60’ and 70’ in West – see Beatles and other group.

I reckon there's a bit more to it than that. Why not blue rinses like you get
        in the States?
    • pandora_ Re: Polish women dying their hair red 27.09.02, 10:15

      Excellent comment!
But may I say, it is a nice change from the usual PPC (Polish Peroxide
      Club)...
Also I've noticed the fairly new to Poland, gothic trend, ie the sickly pale
blue eyed maidens with jet black hair and excessive amounts of black
eyeliner and mascara.... Now, that is scary!
