a lorry - a truck
crisps - chips

Chips and fries are not equal in US.

Americans don’t refer to french fries as chips. There is one exception in the
popular dish, which originated in England where chips=fries, “fish and chips”
where chips=french fraise.

Fish and chips comes from Scotland, not from England. And of course Americans
don’t refer to french fries as chips, it’s the other way round, they called
chips – french fries, and that’s because they call crisps chips.
The other example is vacuum cleaner and hoover – and that’s because Hoover was
a main manufacture of vacuum cleaners.

French fries is the correct spelling.

btw, British call them sometimes French fried potatoes in good restaurants, so it is safer to use "French fries" you can't go wrong here.

In general it is American English and not British whitch is used as the lingua franca of the modern world, for obvious reasons.

It is the US that is a superpower and not the Great Britan. The US prevails in almost any field that is important now: bussines, science, internet, computers, genetic research, movies etc.
